11-24: Is Jesus the Reason for the Season?
Long before Thanksgiving merchants urge us to celebrate the "shopping holidays". No wonder bumper stickers protest that "Jesus Is the Reason for the Season." But is that an adequate summary of what this time of year is all about? What do the Scriptures say is the reason for Jesus? What did those involved in His birth understand to be happening? What was the focus for those who wrote down the accounts of Jesus' arrival? On the morning of our first snowfall Pastor Kirk and the members of the Tuesday Bible Class discussed the various accounts of Jesus' birth, starting a new series: "Merry Christ - Myths!"
12-1: Are Angels Scandinavian Women with Wings?
Angels feature prominently in the Nativity story, but what does Scripture actually tell us about them? Are they women? Do they have wings? Are they Scandinavian, as they appear to be on so many Christmas cards? What is their purpose and what powers do they have? Join our Tuesday 10 am Bible Class as we continue to discuss "Merry Christ - Myths!"
12-8: Did an Innkeeper Offer Joseph a Stable?
Why did Joseph really go to Bethlehem? Did Mary ride a donkey? Was she about to give birth when they arrived? Did an innkeeper offer them a stable for lodging? Was it December 25th? If not, why do we celebrate Christmas as we do? Pastor Kirk "The Grinch" Hille and our Tuesday Bible Class continue a discussion of "Merry Christ - Myths!"
12-15: What Did the Shepherds Hear?
What was significant about the angelic announcement of Jesus' birth? Why was it told to shepherds? Did a choir of angels sing? Why did they proclaim peace on earth when the world would be divided over Jesus? Join our Tuesday Bible Class as we once again discuss "Merry Christ - Myths!"
12-22: Were the Magi Multinational Kings?
Did three kings from the orient visit the baby Jesus on the night of His birth? Would the original readers of Scripture consider the Magi to be wise men? Where did they come from? What did their visit mean? Join our Tuesday Bible Class as we conclude our series on "Merry Christ - Myths!"
